Welcome to my garden!

I have loved plants all my life but didn't take the time to develop my passion until about ten years ago when my friend Susan, a fellow animal rescuer, gave me a large lemon balm and encouraged me to work toward my goal of an English garden.  (The English garden is still a work in progress...)

Recently widowed, I needed to be cost conscious.  Luckily I had access to the property where I grew up - where my gardening crazy father's plants still flourished.  I began by transplanting spearmint which is reputed to take over.  I wish!  Although it is very happy in its new home it does not live up to its bullying reputation.

Next, I dug up native lilies, and have continued transplanting each year.   A small patch of grape hyacinths thrives at the edge of the woods, also completely carefree.  Virginia bluebells are another favorite.

Rose of sharons lend color to the yard, and each spring lilac bushes delight my senses,  but my greatest triumph is my crop of daffodils!

Last fall I decided to take on a new challenge:  paw paws.  These seemingly wild trees are not as easy to grow as I had thought.  However, they are growing.

Tammy's Cannas, a Living Memorial is a tribute to a friend who was brutally murdered by her husband.

Shrubs are courtesy of Lowes, with the lilacs being purchased on clearance.  Many thanks to my brother for allowing me to dig up as many of our dad's treasures as I wanted.
